Finding your voice

Two things struck me rewatching this after the dust had settled.

The first is the irony of the opening section, which was completely lost on me while making it. I'm a new content creator making an opinion piece about how you shouldn't listen to all the content creators out there distracting you from finding your own voice. How meta.

My self-serving justification: the channel isn't trying to tell people what to think. An astute viewer will find that beyond the hooks and necessary clickbait, I try to sneak in some balance. The proverbial vegetables in the sauce. If there's anything I'm passionate about, it's independent thought.

The second is the impact of AI, which I don't touch on in the video. But I increasingly feel its influence on my own creativity.

These videos are - and must remain - my creative output. But AI is becoming remarkably good at collaborating with creators at every stage of the process. I therefore sometimes find myself asking: is this me or the AI talking?

And when I don't know, I'm obliged to hit delete, throw on some Soundgarden and try to reset.

Hopefully this video resonates in an age where it's becoming increasingly easy - and rewarded - to default to the views of others (including computers) rather than to invest in the path of most friction: finding your own voice.
